The research project "Evaluation of Chinese Universities" has begun.
On June 30, 1993, an entire page article titled "China University Rankings - 1991 Research and Development" was published in the second edition of "Guangdong Science and Technology News". This was the first university ranking in China to incorporate the evaluation of humanities and social sciences, breaking the discrimination against the humanities in university evaluations.
In July 1997, the paper "Evaluation of Research and Development Achievements of Chinese Universities" was published in the journal "Science Studies and Management of Science and Technology". For the first time, a direct comparison among different types of universities was achieved both domestically and internationally. The theoretical basis of this was the scientific assumption that "the average researchers of different types of universities possess the same level of innovation ability".
In November 2000, the paper "Evaluation of Graduate Schools in Chinese Universities - 1998" was published in the journal "Science and Technology Management". This was the first evaluation of graduate schools (offices) in China that covered all doctoral-awarding universities, and the evaluation was conducted on 187 doctoral-awarding institutions across the country.
In June 2001, the ranking of national junior colleges was completed. The evaluation subjects were 400 higher vocational colleges across the country. The website www.utop.com.cn was authorized to release it, and it was publicly disclosed in the 6th issue of the "Science of Science and Management of S&T" magazine in 2001.
In 2002, the paper "Evaluation of Chinese Universities in 2002" was published in the journal "Science and Technology Management". This paper presented the first ranking of Chinese universities that covered all disciplines and all undergraduate programs in Chinese universities.
The "Evaluation of Chinese Universities in 2002" also published the first ranking of all disciplines and all first-level and second-level disciplines of graduate schools in Chinese universities.
